D2L Email Forwarding

MSU email (forwarding, cc to msu email)

Quick steps:

  • Select your course
  • Click the Communications dropdown
  • Select Email
  • You will see your Inbox

You have an email account for sending emails to and receiving emails from other users in D2L. You can forward emails to an external address. 

The Email tool offers folders for your Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts.  A Trash can allows you to delete messages. an Address Book allows you to compile commonly used email addresses.

Forwarding your mail to your MSU email address

  • on the minibar, click the dropdown to the right of your name
  • select Account Settings
  • click the Email tab
  • Check the box for Forward incoming messages to an alternate email account
  • enter the email address you wish to forward to
  • click the appropriate radio button for how you wish D2L messages to be marked
  • Save

Send a copy of your messages to your MSU email address

  • on the minibar, click the dropdown to the right of your name
  • select Account Settings
  • click the Email tab
  • Check the box for Send a copy of each outgoing message to MSUNETID@msu.edu
  • Save

Changing your reply-to email address

By default, replies to email you send in the system go to your inbox in the Email tool. If you prefer to receive email replies at an external email address, update the Reply To Email Address field in your Email settings. This means that when users reply to your email, the reply-to address you specify appears in their To: field.

  1. Do one of the following:
  • Click Account Settings from your personal menu on the minibar and click the Email tab.
  • Click  Go to Email from the Message alert on the minibar, and click Settings.            
  • Click Account Settings in the My Settings widget and click the Email tab.            
  • Enter your external email address in the Reply To Email Address field.    
  • Click Save.
  • Setting up an email contact method

    1. Click Notifications from your personal menu on the minibar.
    2. In the Email Address section, click Change your email settings.
    3. Do one of the following:
    • Select Use system email to use the email address linked to your account
    • Select Use custom email and enter an email address in the field provided.
  • Click Save.
