Michigan State University uses D2L Brightspace as its centrally supported Learning Management System (LMS). Originally adopted in July 2012, the platform was initially branded as Desire2Learn. In 2014, the company rebranded its product line to Brightspace. At MSU, Brightspace includes tools such as the Learning Environment, ePortfolio, and Learning Repository. In 2015, Desire2Learn officially shortened its name to D2L.
This can lead to some confusion, as documentation may reference any of these names. For clarity, Desire2Learn, Brightspace, and D2L all refer to the same product. As D2L updates its documentation, you may still see the term "Brightspace" used, but it simply refers to the D2L product line.
