AI writing detection tools may not always be accurate (they may misidentify both human and AI-generated text) so they should not be used as the sole basis for adverse actions against a student. It takes further scrutiny and human judgment in conjunction with an organization's application of its specific academic policies to determine whether any academic misconduct has occurred.
While utilizing AI technology, issues surrounding misinformation and inaccuracies, bias and unintentional harm, inappropriate content, and algorithmic implications must be considered. More on these topics can be found in the university guidance on generative AI use. Additional materials and guidance about generative AI at MSU can be found on iTeach.
