Crowdmark

In our ongoing efforts to streamline MSU’s assessment tools and support a more consistent experience for students, Crowdmark will be retired as an MSU IT-supported grading tool in June 2027.

Users currently utilizing Crowdmark will need to transition to Gradescope or another appropriate enterprise-supported solution prior to the end of support. This change is intended to reduce overlap among assessment tools, support more efficient use of university resources, and simplify the number of platforms educators use across their courses.

What is happening?

In June 2027, Crowdmark’s current contract term will end, and MSU IT will not renew it at this time. Please ensure assignments, annotated submissions, and student grades are exported before this date.

Gradescope will serve as the primary recommended alternative for Crowdmark.

What do you need to do?

Between now and May 2027, begin planning your transition from Crowdmark to Gradescope or another appropriate enterprise-supported tool, with all assessments moved by June 2027. Course content will need to be recreated within Gradescope as there is no automatic transfer option from Crowdmark.

Review the Gradescope Guides website, watch the tutorial videos, sign up for Fall 2026 semester workshops (when available), and request an individual consultation if you would like additional support.

Why is this change occurring?

This change supports more efficient use of university resources while reducing overlap among assessment tools.

It will also help create a more consistent student experience by decreasing the number of platforms students need to learn and use across their courses.
