Why use Assignments in D2L?

Most students are highly accustomed to using online platforms to submit assignments and take assessments. Many have limited access to printing or must pay for printing services, thus preferring digital submission. Using the digital drop box in D2L aligns with students' known ways of being in a class and streamlines the use of the online grade book. This practice is akin to the digital reporting processes that will dominate Spartan graduates' work lives.

How to use the assignments tool

  1. Click Assessments in the navigation bar in your course.
  2. Choose Assignments and click the blue New Assignment button.
  3. Enter an Assignment Title, Due Date, and Instructions for the assignment.  
  4. Click Ungraded in the Grade Out Of box and enter the number of points the assignment is worth.
  5. To create a new grade item for this assignment, stay with the default In Grade Book setting. To associate this assignment with an existing grade item, click In Grade Book, choose Edit or Link to Existing, select Link to an existing grade item, and choose the correct grade item from the list.
  6. Click OK.  
  7. Change any settings in the right sidebar as needed, such as setting start and end dates and adding rubrics for student submissions.  
  8. Toggle the Hidden status to Visible at the bottom of the screen.
  9. Click Save and Close
