When you go to d2l.msu.edu you will view MSU’s D2L Login page. After logging in, the first page you see will be MSU’s My Home page. When you enter a course you will view the Course Home page. Course Home may be unique to each course as instructors can edit this page.
All courses are initially set up with a default Course Home. Use the Homepage Management tool to create a new homepage and set it as the active homepage for your course. You can then add or remove widgets, customize their appearance, and create custom widgets to expand the functionality of your course homepage.
The typical default homepage is widget-based. Widgets are sections of content that provide information and links to tools, courses, and personal settings. Organization and course homepages can point to Learning Environment tools, such as News or Content, or an external URL.
Widgets are the building blocks of homepages. You can create, edit, delete, customize, and preview the widgets in your organization.
There are two types of widgets available for your homepages:
- System Widgets (you cannot change but can add to your page)
- Custom Widgets (created by you)
Note: When you access D2L via an iPad and want to remove a widget from your Homepage, the X that allows this is not visible. Go ahead and open the editor by tapping the widget display. Select the option to Hide all properties. Then you will see the X in the top right corner and can remove the widget.
